Shafer (No. 54, 2011) commits to Augusta State

Cody Shafer of Evans, Ga., has given a verbal commitment to play golf for the defending NCAA champion Augusta State Jaguars.

Shafer?made visits to Clemson, South Carolina, Auburn and Georgia Southern?and?had offers from Auburn, Georgia Southern, Kennesaw?St., Mercer, Georgia? Tech, Wisconsin, Clemson and several Div. II?schools.?

“Cody chose Augusta State to concentrate on golf and not to get distracted by all the other things going on at the bigger schools,” said his father, Bart Shafer. “Cody is also a hometown guy and Coach Gregory made mention that Augusta State has never been able to keep the upper-tier talent at home and that they always want to run off to the big football school.”

“Cody is the first Rolex All-American from the state of Georgia and in the Augusta area to sign with Augusta State. He also mentioned what that would say for their program that an upper-tier talented player would decide to stay home. Plus Augusta State being the reigning 2010 National Champions speaks volumes.”?

Shafer,?who is a senior at Greenbrier High School,?was recently named to the Rolex All-American honorable mention list, winning the AJGA Burgett Mooney and then placing?second?the following week in the AJGA Charles Howell III.
