Votaw, Dawson named to top IGF positions

LAUSANNE, Switzerland – Royal and Ancient Chief Executive Peter Dawson has been appointed the first president of world golf’s governing body.

Ty Votaw was named vice president of the International Golf Federation. He is an executive vice president for the PGA Tour.

Both men will serve two-year terms beginning Jan. 1 while continuing in their existing roles with their respective organizations.

Dawson has served as joint secretary of the IGF since 1999. Votaw helped spearhead golf’s successful bid for inclusion in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Antony Scanlon took over as the IGF’s executive director on Nov. 1.

The IGF was founded in 1958 and has been recognized by the IOC as golf’s official world body.
